A few months back, author Carolyn Souaid and I (photographer MOnique Dykstra) asked teacher Cryatal Speedie to do a little work with the kids before we arrived in Inujuak in January.

It’s Monique P, of “the Moniques,” here to tell you about our latest Quebec Roots adventure!

The Moniques  and Florence Allegrini, who among other things, runs the Quebec Roots program at the Blue Metropolis Literary Foundation, spent most of Monday and Tuesday at Ecole Luke Mettaweskum School in Nemaska, a Cree community in the James Bay region. 

Generally, when you walk into a class at 8:15 in the morning, most of the students are still half-asleep. But that isn’t what happened today when photographer Joel Silverstein, Florence Allegrini and I visited Kristen O’Sullivan’s Grade Eight English class at FACE here in Montreal.
