Teleliterature was a series of online writing workshops held from 2003 to 2008 and led by well-known authors to help develop students’ literary interests and creativity. The programme aimed to enrich the educational and cultural life of students in remote regions; promote Quebec literature; stimulate students’ imagination with creative writing exercises; and carry out a unique pedagogical and literary project with the help of the Internet.

Authors who participated in this programme include J.R Carpenter, Kaie Kellough, Catherine Kidd, André Lemelin, Geneviève Letarte, Stanley Péan, and more.

A word game – the writing of lipogram poems or short texts without using the letter “e” – was one of the elements of the activity, and participating students were eligible to enter the Blue Metropolis Lipogram Contest.

Between 2003 and 2008, approximately 1000 students paticipated in the Teleliterature programme. This was the first Blue Metropolis educational programme proposed as an outreach programme for students in outlying areas. It used videoconferencing, an essential tool for schools discovering this new technology. It was also offered in French as Télélittérature
